R.M.S. "WINDSOR CASTLE" (3)
1960-1977

R.M.S. "Windsor Castle" entering Durban harbour, attended by the
S.A.R.&H. tug "J.R. More"
There are two reasons behind this choice of photograph.
The first being that both vessels represent the end of an era, the
"Windsor Castle" with her running mate the "Transvaal Castle"
represented the culmination of that truly great service, the weekly
mail service from Britain. The "J.R. More" similarly was
the last, and finest of a long line of steam tugs built in Britain
for the South African Railways & Harbours. That
was the first reason.
The second is that the photograph could very well have been taken
when I was the mate of the "J.R. More"!
