NOTICES TO MARINERS

LAST PORT OF CALL

All who knew Roger Allen will I know be sorry to hear of his last departure on the 28th of December2008.Roger was some years junior to me, I think I was the senior cadet when he joined for his first trip in the Company.   Tall and lanky, somehow you always wondered if Roger had made the wisest choice of careers, his relatively short time at sea perhaps confirms this!   Owen  14.01.09

James Dearness, Catering Purser sailed on his last voyage on the 22nd of December 2008

CORRECTIONS

The site refit continues, much of Shipmates ABC have been completely overhauled, please notify me of any problems experienced .

SITE MODIFICATIONS

You will see that new SHIPMATE pages, as well as being a revised format are accessed by clicking on the person's name I.E., Keen, Owen rather than on the right hand icons, these will be phased out.   Another change is in the right hand column a very brief message is given.   This is to encourage contacts between friends and to help family trace relatives, importantly and the aim of this site, to find old hands who otherwise will be forgotten.

SITE ADDITION

The South African Harbour Service was inevitably closely associated with Union-Castle and Clan lines due to the Service drawing so many of its personnel from those lines.   And, like British & Commonwealth the South African harbour Service as such exists no more, it has been replaced by Portnet, a very different and modern organisation.   I very much hope that all those I was privileged to work with will contact me with their own stories and details.
