A feeder ship built to replace the ancient "Eider" and "Hansa".   She ran between Hamburg and Southampton, one of her 'duties' was to give budding marine superintendents command experience.  (Possibly the Company did not trust them on anything larger!)

Requisitioned as a convoy rescue ship, her duty was to pick up survivors from torpedoed vessels.   She was lost in September 1941.
